Motorized pulley manufacturer, Rulmeca Corp., has expanded its production line thanks to a yearlong expansion effort.

This fall, the firm’s electric autoclave manufacturer, Bondtech, commissioned a new machine and trained production staff on how to use it to bring a new capability in-house. The new equipment enables Rulmeca to offer more motorized pulley options from its Wilmington assembly facility, at 3200 Corporate Drive.

Rulmeca can now offer hot vulcanized white nitrile rubber on its motorized pulley shells. A computer numerical control (CNC) Fryer machine now allows Rulmeca to offer smooth or profiled white nitrile lagged motorized pulleys to its customers.

“Outfitted with a Prosco Grinder and Hot Knife, this machine will enable us to finish the nitrile we hot vulcanize onto our shells,” CEO Mike Gawinski said in a Jan. 9 release. “Customers usually require rubber surfaces on their conveyor drives to provide enough traction to drive their conveyor belts. Food processors, package handlers, and other equipment manufacturers not only require smooth rubber surfaces on their Rulmeca Motorized Pulleys, but also a wide variety of surface grooves…like treads on automobile tires.”

Founded in 2003, the local Rulmeca affiliate manufactures a variety of motorized pulleys, from 3 inches in diameter at a horsepower of .03 to up to 40 inches in diameter at 330 horsepower. A wide range of clients purchases the pulleys, including food producers, the construction industry, mining operations and more.

As of September 2022, the firm employed a staff of 14 in its 30,000-square-foot building in the Northchase Industrial Park. It expanded operations into that building in 2018.
