NourishNC, a Wilmington-based nonprofit organization that provides nutritious food to children, recently announced  the hiring of Lambeth Chalk as its new program director.

According to the release, Lambeth will strengthen relationships and serve as the direct liaison with the children and families NourishNC serves, school social workers, community partners and volunteers. She will be evaluating and expanding NourishNC’s programs, including the Backpack Program, which currently serves 1,400 children.

After teaching Spanish at UNCW and working with El Cuerpo in New Hanover County, Chalk will continue using her bilingual and cross-cultural skills at NourishNC, the release stated.

“NourishNC has more innovative programs on the horizon and Lambeth is going to be steering the ship. We are excited to have her leading our program growth and ensuring that every child in New Hanover County has access to nutritious food,” said NourishNC’s Executive Director Steve McCrossan in the release.

NourishNC recently moved into its new 12,000-square-foot facility at 3606 Market St., which quadruples the organization's fresh and frozen food storage and doubles its non-perishable storage. In addition, the new facility contains the “Market on Market,” more affectionately known as “The MoM.”

According to the release, "The MoM is a small, free grocery store, where food insecure children and their families can choose the foods that are best for them."
